Superb Image Maker in Vancouver
Welcome to PhotoConnaissance. Allow me to introduce myself. First things first, this sketch of me was made some time ago. Since then the beard and hair are a bit whiter and thinner on top! However, it is me and an image of me I like ........and I am still recognisable! I believe that it is important to see the eyes that saw these images from behind the lens. I have been an image maker for decades, but have also had a life as an Engineer, Architect and Educator. Originally from UK, I have lived in north and western Canada for many years and have travelled widely. I have been focussed on photography for a good while now, but I honestly have many varied interests in photography, so you will find a wide variety of captured images here, rural and wild landscapes, urban landscapes, architecture, aviation, restored historical images and items from my personal collection, as well as various renderings in watercolour, oils and multimedia. I also do digital restorations of old damaged photos on request.
A Unique Approach
Because I do not have a drive to photograph just one type of subject, you will find examples of a wide variety of subjects in all kinds of locations. Scenics are of course present but you will also find images of things seen without a greater context, isolated things or parts of things which I found interesting because of their form or assembly. I also use some of my images as the base for manipulating them into images in a different media, watercolour,oils or mixed media sketches, presented for example on stretched canvas, photographic papers, aluminum sheet. The important thing for me is quality and enjoying myself. I trust that you will see the quality and enjoy my work.
Technology and Technique
Over the years I have used both film and digital cameras, usually equipment made by Canon until recently when I switched to Sony. Both companies make exceptional cameras and lenses but I am enjoying the efforts made by Sony to create superb images. From time to time I do use other digital cameras as backup too. Truth be told though, it isn't about the camera or the lens.....great photographs can be made with cheap and simple cameras. It really is about the person behind it.
